Scion tC the bargain you don’t want to miss

This is going to be the final month for the Scion tC, so if you want to own a new one, you had better do it now. With Toyota shutting Scion down and absorbing the more popular Scion models, they will clearing out stock and this means that this is a bargain that you may not want to miss out on this chance.

One of the biggest highlights of the Scion tC is that it has been misunderstood when it comes to being a fast car. It is often criticized for offering performance that is underwhelming.

However bear in mind that the Scion tC wasn’t intended to be a vehicle that offers extreme speed along with performance. The vehicle was made for its reliability along with it being affordable. It offers the 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine that gives up 179 horses and it offers you around 31mpg.

While the Scion tC may not be as fast as some of the competition, it does offer up a ride that is enjoyable and it is a pleasure to get behind the wheel. There are no big issues with the vehicle and as the price tag is going to be under $19,000, this might be a bargain that you do not want to miss.

Why Scion may sell more cars after it’s gone.

In February, Toyota announced that it would be shutting down its Scion brand and folding 3 of the Scion models into the Toyota line. The Scion brand was an experiment towards a “youth-movement” 13 years ago.

After enduring several years without new products, Scion dealers finally netted some fresh metal: the entry-level iA sedan and iM hatchback, both of which arrived last fall as 2016 models. But there may be a silver lining to this black eye. Most of Scion's product range won't die with the folding of the brand; they'll be absorbed into Toyota's model lineup. The iA, iM, and FR-S models will all become Toyotas. That's where things could get interesting, because even if only their emblems change, some of the rebadged models will very likely sell better than they did as Scions.

There are a number of reasons to think that Scion's sales picture may be rosier after the brand dies. Those factors include Toyota's far superior brand awareness and its reputation among car shoppers. It can take decades to seed a new automotive nameplate in the eyes of the buying public, and Scion lost most of its marketing budget years ago, back when sales slackened. Consequently, there are a large number of consumers who simply don't know about the brand at all.

C-HR Crossover Concept

Toyota had recently confirmed Scion would receive a new small crossover based on its C-HR concept, and it was widely expected to quickly become Scion's best-selling model. They decided to hold off on the launch until after Scion’s closure, and will launch it as a Toyota. The thought was to only debut the vehicle once as a Toyota, instead of twice.

Brand New Toyota 86

The Toyota 86 is getting a completely refreshed look. Including a more aggressive look with larger center exhaust intake to reflect the car’s low, wide stance. New front and rear treatments include reconfigured LED lighting systems, new turn signals, and a revised front bumper. Alloy wheels feature a twisted spoke design and logos for the 86 are incorporated on fenders and wheel wells.

Re-designed Interior

Inside the cabin, luxury material is used on the instrument panel surround and door trim. New seating material with silver stitching plus a sporty steering wheel with integrated audio controls are new. The car’s suspension has been tuned for enhanced control. When fitted with the manual transmission, the new 86, which will star in the racing film “Formula Drift,” inherits improved torque and 5 more horsepower.

Scion FR-S to Become Toyota 86

Fear not, Scion lovers, the exciting Scion FR-S will live on, albeit with a slight name change as Toyota absorbs the Scion brand.  The FR-S will become the Toyota 86, starting with the next model year.  The new 2017 Toyota 86 debuted at the New York international Auto Show in March, and is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2016.

"When we announced the transition of the Scion models to Toyota we hadn't planned on changing the names of our cars, but by popular demand, for our sports car, we decided to adopt the global name of '86'" said Toyota Division Group Vice President Bill Fay.  Enthusiasts have a strong association with the front-engine, rear-drive heritage of the 'hachi-roku' and the dynamic performance it offers".

The 2017 Toyota 86 will continue to be powered by a 2.0-liter Boxer engine, and will gain a boost to 205 horsepower on the manual version, as well as an additional 5 ft-lb of torque.  Toyota says to expect "additional performance" thanks to different gear ratios for the six-speed manual transmission.  Newly-added Hill Start Assist Control will be another bonus for manual drivers.

Scion FR-S Release Series 2.0

Part of Scion's advertising campaign makes liberal use of the word "weird", as they market to an audience that doesn't mind quirky.   There's nothing weird, however, about the 2016 Scion FR-S Release Series 2.0.

Upgrades from the standard FR-S include:
  • 17" forged aluminum wheels
  • LED daytime running lamps
  • Leather-trimmed heated seats with Alcantara accents
  • Front and rear spoilers
  • Leather-trimmed steering wheel
  • Six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters
  • Chrome-tipped dual exhaust

The FR-S Release Series 2.0 is not only beautiful and sporty, it's also safe.  The 2016 FR-S has received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's highest rating, the 5-star safety rating.
